ABOUT UNDisabled Lives
I believe that, as special needs parents, we have the power to play the hand we’ve been dealt to win. And each of us gets to decide what "winning" looks like for us - based on our family’s unique needs and desires, abilities and circumstances.
Yes, our lives may be difficult, but they don’t have to be "disabled" lives. We can move forward one step at a time - one choice at a time - to define and create our family’s most fulfilling, most joy-filled, "UN-disabled lives". What might that look like for you?

Even if circumstances don’t change, joy can come from choosing a different mindset.
Taking the time to rejuvenate, even before we feel too tired, is not irresponsible. The LORD showed me that taking breaks to help me rest was a weapon.
Even though the focus on transitioning your child to adulthood may seem premature, asking these types of questions can help make the process go a lot smoother.
As special needs parents, do we allow tough circumstances to change our perspective about who Jesus is to us?
Our hearts need regular attention. A dirty dishwasher reminded me that I had neglected to tend to my own heart.
Each of us has been designed specifically by God so we can do all that He has prepared for us. He calls each of us His masterpiece. How do we become who He already says we are?
The ability to experience joy is a gift from God that enables us to persevere through tough circumstances.
Neglecting to care for ourselves is an injustice to us and our families. Are you willing to advocate for your own physical, spiritual and emotional needs so that you and your family can thrive?
As we trust in God’s lordship - even when our hearts are struggling - He promises to show us which paths to take.
Sometimes, even when it’s difficult to imagine things changing, we can move into a season of a less restricted life.
Despite the difficulties that can accompany lives impacted by disability, we can hold onto our HOPE because God’s plans for us are GOOD.
Scripture promises that those who “sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy.” Do you believe that?
Self-care is vital if we want to remain strong over the long term. Here’s my current self-care routine. What’s yours?
Written from the perspective of a special needs dad, this book documents the tension all special needs parents experience between discouragement and hope, the aching and the joy.
The reality of adulthood for our kids can feel scary and overwhelming. Even still, we have to help prepare them (and ourselves) for the transition.
I used this “20th anniversary” to reflect on what I’ve learned - with an eye towards how my experiences might be a help to someone else on their special needs journey.
Working with a coach is a form of self-care that can help you to reconnect to your own goals, recognize your strengths, and create a plan for living a more fulfilling life.
How would our lives change if we CHOSE to be less restricted by what we believe we can’t do and more focused on what we could do if we sought opportunities for our family to live its “least restrictive life”?
God’s plan for our children—the potential He has placed uniquely in each of them—comes in pieces. Like a puzzle.
